Scoping AJRH operations and future directions
Abstract
rights (SRHR). As a precursor to this event, the United Nations, in 1994, organized an International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo, Egypt, that led to a more holistic definition of SRHR from the
narrow perspective of population control1. The aftermath of the ICPD conference included increased research activities, provision of new health services, and
development of new tools to assess SRHR programmes and services. The African continent featured prominently in assenting to the programme of action of
the ICPD because it was evident that a clear pathway for Africa’s development was in prioritizing the SRHR of all persons, especially women. Since then, the AJRH has become the major platform to showcase the scholarly work of scientists working in the field of SRHR in Africa and beyond.
